The Limousin region in central France is popular with visitors at all times of the year and is wonderfully accessible from across Europe. A region rich in history and culture, Limousin offers everything from Romanesque churches to the haunting ruins of medieval castles. The regional capital, Limoges, is a bustling city with a beautiful river, winding cobbled streets, and worldwide acclaim for its fine porcelain.
Just 10 minutes from Halcyon Retreat lies La Souterraine, a charming town steeped in history and known for its connection to the ‘Santiago de Compostela’ pilgrimage route.
Also nearby is Oradour-sur-Glane — a powerful and moving memorial village, preserved exactly as it was after its destruction by the SS in World War II. A visit here is both sobering and unforgettable.
