Located just over an hour’s drive from the Wyndham Halcyon Retreat, Lake Vassivière offers an idyllic setting for you to explore. The lake spans over 1,000 hectares, with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, fishing, and water sports like kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding.
Water Sports
At the Lac Vassivière, you’ll find plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
There is a variety of water sports equipment available for rental including paddleboards, kayaks, and pedalos and for children, there are water parks and beaches where they can play and swim. For more adventurous children (and adults!), there are also options for wakeboarding and waterskiing. These activities are a bit more challenging, but the instructors at the various water sports centres around the lake are experienced and patient, making it a fun and safe experience for all.
Art Centre
One of the highlights of a visit to Lake Vassivière is the Centre d’Art Contemporain, a modern art museum located on a small island in the middle of the lake. The museum features a rotating collection of contemporary artworks, with exhibitions that range from paintings and sculptures to multimedia installations and performance art. Other Activities
If you’re not into water sports, Lake Vassivière has plenty of other activities to offer with hiking and cycling trails around the lake as well as horseback riding options. If you prefer to just sit back and relax by the water’s edge, the lake features several beaches with sandy shores and grassy areas, perfect for sunbathing, picnics, and strolls. There are also numerous shaded areas and benches, providing visitors with a comfortable place to rest and take in the beautiful views of the lake.
Dining
Lake Vassiviere has several options for dining, ranging from casual cafes to elegant restaurants. One popular spot is the Bistro du Lac, located right on the lake with a beautiful terrace overlooking the water. The restaurant serves delicious French cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Another great option is La Cara’Bar, a waterfront café and brasserie that serves sweet or savoury crepes as well as tasty burgers and snacks,- perfect for a quick and casual meal. And for those who prefer a more traditional dining experience, there is the Pré du Lac which is located within the Chateau on the Island of Vassiviere where can enjoy a delicious meal of classic French dishes in a cosy and historic atmosphere.
